DURHAM NORTHUMBERLAND SPRING TOUR SATURDAY APRIL 15, 2023
9:00am – 5:30pm
Durham/Northumberland Spring Tour
Can I lead & sweep?
Have you been on someone’s tour and found yourself saying “I’d love to share my favorite roads, but could I lead a tour?” Have you been hesitant to offer to sweep? Have you found yourself on a waitlist for a tour, and the tour organizer has said if I had another lead and sweep, we could make the group larger – would you be willing to do either? If your answer is YES to any of these questions, then this opportunity is for you!
Breaking new ground last year, the Class of 2022 graduates were the first group that got to sweep and lead different segments while enjoying some interesting stops and photos opportunities along the way.
Michelle and Steven will again host this wonderful opportunity to get out early in the driving season meeting other members and gaining experience in leading and sweeping on tours. This tour will be casual and intimate with the intention that we all enjoy touring and learning while connecting with club members/Miata enthusiasts. The route will be planned along some great secondary roads east of Toronto, both rural and less busy urban roads, (small towns) with some interesting stops along the way. The route will be segmented, with your hosts leading the first segment, followed by enough segments so that everyone has a turn to lead/sweep both on less traveled country roads, as well as quiet urban streets to provide a variety of opportunities to all participants. This tour is limited to six cars total, and about a week or so prior to the tour, segment assignments of approximately 45 minutes to an hour will be shared long with route information so that each member can prepare ahead of time to sweep/lead their segments.
Approximately 300 km, five plus hours of seat time with short breaks between each segment, plan for a full day of driving with a late lunch/early dinner break. CB Radios and the ability to follow the route either via the Scenic app or GPX file are mandatory for this tour, since you will be using your CB radio and providing driving directions to the group while leading/sweeping.
