A few of us did a tour last summer up to Edenvale with Bruce Cowan. We visited the relocated Avro Arrow replica that is now there in it’s own hanger. This airfield also had a wonderful show every year called the Gathering of the Classics. They missed a few years with Covid and last year they did not have enough time to get the required volunteers to run the show.
I have attended this show several times over the years and along with an incredible collection of antique aircraft that are mostly flown in for the day they have a pretty good car show….muscle cars, 50’s Americana and a good showing of British sports cars.
This is a great event where you can get up close with WW1 and WW2 aircraft and often watch them landing and taking off.
I have made the suggestion that perhaps we could combine a car show for Miata’s and some of our members could also help out with the volunteer duties. Car parking, aircraft marshaling and greeting the pilots are some of the duties that they have mentioned. This is all very early days of organizing but I just wanted to post this to get an idea of interest in our club.
BTW: If you watch Restoration Garage the TV show about the garage in Bradford then you may have seen clips of this airstrip. The owner of the garage David Grainger has a hanger at Edenvale where he keeps his old biplane and WW2 trainer.
